Eskimos General Manager Controversy
Danny Maciocia was fired  as the general manager of the Edmonton Eskimos after a heart breaking 1-4 start to the team’s 2010 CFL season.
“We will begin a North American search for a great football manager, but there’s no given time on when we will find another general manager,” Eskimos team president and CEO Rick LeLacheur said Saturday. “I’m going to find the best all around football person we humanly can find.”
Maciocia was fired  Saturday morning, despite the fact that the team avoided Edmonton’s first 0-5 season start since 1965 with a well played 28-25 victory over the B.C. Lions on Friday evening.
“I was thinking about this decision for a long time,” said LeLacheur. “The nail biting decision was made last Monday”.
Danny Maciocia took over as the  GM and director of football operations in 2008 after being head coach for four years and leading the team to win the Grey Cup in 2005.
The team president had given a solid warning after the disappointing 47-21 loss the Eskimos faced in Winnipeg against the stupid Blue Bombers in Week 4 of the 2010 CFL season. LeLacheur said the Eskimos poor performance was unacceptable and that he is able to fire whoever and whenever.
The Eskimos made a move to get someone in as the general manager for their team by Hiring former Saskatchewan Roughrider General Manager, Eric Tillman. Tillman was fired as the Riders general manager after being accused for assaulting a 16 year old. The Eskimos say that this may be the solution to the rest of their season, and perhaps many years to come.
